Progress Your Diving
Once you have made the decision to join EMSUB, you will start your training. EMSUB is affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) and offers training in the BSAC qualifications. Each qualification consists of theory lessons (usually delivered in the pub on a Tuesday evening), sheltered water practical lessons in the pool, open water lessons (usually at Stoney Cove quarry) and an assessment in both practical and theory. A student pack is provided at each stage, containing a student handbook and qualification signoff file. For the time that you are training, your kit will be provided to the best fit we can manage with the selection we have.
EMSUB offer crossover training from other recognised qualifications to BSAC.

Costs and Kit
When starting any new past-time, the initial start up costs can be expensive. EMSUB have a wide selection of kit available for all members to borrow. If you are signed up to a qualification you will be given kit for the duration of your course. We believe that by taking ownership of your own set of kit you are able to begin to set it up yourself and it becomes familiar to you.
If you continue to progress your skills you will inevitably want to start purchasing your own kit. The club sometimes has kit donated by former members, members upgrade their kit, plus auction sites and marketplace are good sources to find second hand (starter) kit. Instructors and other club members can offer lots of advice of different configurations and you may be able to borrow kit to try before you buy. Just ask, someone probably has what you are looking for.
The club is responsible for ensuring all club kit is serviced and within test dates. It will be the trainee's responsibility to refill their own cylinder after diving in preparation for the next dive or returning to stores. Refills can either be done locally at GoDive in Derby or Stoney Cove also have gas refill facilities.
Much of our training takes place in the sheltered waters of Stoney Cove Quarry, EMSUB would recommend that members of the club subscribe to Stoney Cove Diverlog. As well as other benefits Diverlog reduces the cost of each entry significantly.

Training - Courses
If you would like to develop your diving skills further EMSUB can arrange many of BSAC affiliated Skill Development Courses (SDC). Tired of being cold and wet? Drysuit Training could be for you. Now that you have mastered not ascending to the surface like a cork, a Buoyancy and Trim could help you to perfect that neutral buoyancy and give you control to be able to fly over coral without damaging it. Or perhaps you have always wanted to drive a boat? Boat Handling and seamanship courses are also available. The list is full and comprehensive. I have listed a few here but check out BSAC website using the links above for more on each course and other courses available. You may even suggest one that is not currently on offer but... be careful what you wish for!
